Spiritual Lessons Everyone Should Learn
Johannes Adendorff, the author of A Different Plan, provides some helpful spiritual lessons to guide people through their everyday lives.
From facing bullying as a child to being in the military, to moving across the world to find my soulmate and facing significant personal challenges, I realize now that God has always had a plan for my life. It might have been a different plan than what I’d expected when I first set off as a young man in the military.
But God has always led me to what was best for my life.
Here are some other important spiritual lessons you might find helpful in your own journey:
- Fear is the enemy. Let the Holy Spirit shield you in courage and boldness, and do not let the enemy control you. Remember that God has not given us a spirit fear, but a Spirit of power and of love and of a sound mind.
- Good can rise from the bad. When I faced cancer, I was sitting around in pain and suffering many times. But through those periods came new opportunities—I helped my pastor, I started a business, created a new software program for hospital waiting rooms (thanks to my overly-long stays in so many hospitals), and my wife and I conceived our third son during that time. Never let illness or the threat of death shake your faith in the Lord, and you will find opportunities even in the darkest places.
- Wounds can heal. Growing up and through my young adult life, I kept wondering why people always targeted me. Why are they so evil to me? I would often wonder. I have done nothing wrong. The Bible teaches us to keep our heart above everything else, to heal its wounds so it can sustain us. This means letting go and forgiving past wrongs, and moving forward rather than backward.
Every single experience I have ever had—whether painful or filled with love—has provided me with knowledge of God’s ultimate power and important spiritual lessons.
For so much of my life, my vision was clouded by darkness. I thought I had a plan for my life. I sought to find light in skydiving, in smoking and other bad habits. But what I needed was with me all along: God.
God had a plan for my life that started in America and has followed me to this day. Every time I stumbled and prayed, God would send something or someone my way to help.
With a little prayer and some faith, I am confident He will do it for you, too.
